I learned it’s okay to focus on work life balance - and to expect more from my career
Jeff had a powerhouse career but was feeling unsure and swirling in his own brain. We got him unstuck, and helped him see the role that he wanted to work to play in a more holistic way in his life - rather than running his life and his thoughts
“I wanted to work with a career coach because I was looking for a genuine partner to help me move through this process. I found myself internalizing a lot and thinking inside my head - and as much as my wife was patient with me - it’s not the same as working with a coach. I was stuck, and wasn’t sure what to do. Rikki helped me work through it.
Rikki’s not your ordinary career coach. I expected coaches to be stuffy: focused on maximizing earnings and climbing the corporate ladder. Rikki brought humor and fun to the process - it helped me not take myself too seriously. She was focused on the holistic picture - how work falls into place alongside family, friends, hobbies and life. And at the same time, she was incredibly smart, built wonderful rapport, our conversations felt like they were with a close friend, but were full of thought-provoking questions, and she picked up on themes that I wouldn’t have.
The biggest payoff was realizing what I wanted - and that what I wanted was okay. It’s okay to focus on work life balance. It’s okay to expect more from my career in terms of making me happier. It’s okay to recognize that my past negative experiences were a result of more than just myself, and other people have had similar experiences.
If you’re looking to pivot, make a big transition, get clarity on what you want in work/life - work with Rikki. She can pull you out of your head, parse out your thoughts and give you an objective perspective. This work has been so valuable - the exercises, the conversations, all of it. I’m thankful for the experience.”
